From the Mayor

IT IS MY PLEASURE TO WELCOME YOU to Oakland: a network of neighborhoods and great communities. A place of artistic expression, of commercial revitalization, a city energized by hope. Welcome to my hometown.

Oakland is a city of great cultural and ethnic diversity-the largest urban center in the East Bay. We are a destination for sporting events, museums, art galleries, and have a renowned symphony orchestra.

We are home to the largest of the public telescopes in the western United States, home of Children's Fairyland - the prototype for Walt Disney's Disneyland in Los Angeles - and home to the Western Aerospace Museum, located in the vintage hangar from which Amelia Earhart took her last flight.

There is much to see and do; we have it all here: good weather, great restaurants, historic sites, and, our crown jewel nestled in the heart of the city, Lake Merritt. Come for long walks. Come for great food. Come to make a memory in my hometown.

Visit us in Oakland. Together we can do great things.

Ron Dellums
