Oakland’s Online Maps Provide Colorful Guide to City

Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Web Site Offers Interactive Retail and Business Maps

OAKLAND, CA – (September 6, 2006) – New colorful maps of the East Bay’s most vibrant city are now available at the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau Web site (www.oaklandcvb.com). Over 1,500 Oakland businesses are highlighted in these easily-navigable diagrams that allow the city’s visitors to quickly locate which restaurants, attractions, services and shopping opportunities are nearby. The online maps unfold from Jack London Square on the west to Montclair on the east, from the Oakland Hills in the north to the Oakland Airport in the south.

“Oakland now boasts the most detailed, interactive maps of any city in the United States in terms of retail and business services for visitors,” says Robert Wolf, founder of MondoMap™ and designer of the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau online maps program.

The maps are designed with a color-coded, easy-to-use interface to locate categories such as: Accommodations, Dining & Nightlife, Shopping, Arts & Attractions, Services, and Transportation. Many of the businesses listed on the maps offer links to their own Web sites, giving visitors even more details, such as menus, retail information, amenity packages, and hours of operation. Additional popular districts included on the Web site are: Temescal, Uptown, Rockridge, Piedmont Avenue, Fruitvale, City Center, Chinatown, Lake Merritt, Grand Avenue and Old Oakland.

“We are thrilled to lead the nation in making this vital information so easy to obtain for our guests. The vivid maps are a great way for visitors to get recommendations and information with just a mouse click,” said Manette Belliveau, Executive Director of the Oakland Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Each year, Oakland hosts 1.5 million overnight guests staying in commercial lodging, approximately 2.25 million day visitors, and many others who stay with family and friends. In 2005, the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau received the California Travel and Tourism Commission’s Best Web Site award. For details, call 510-839-9000 or visit www.oaklandcvb.com.

The mission of the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau is to market the City of Oakland as a preferred destination for meetings, conventions, trade shows and leisure travel, to increase travel expenditures, and to further strengthen the local economy.
